"The Race to the Bottom"?

Critics of globalization and trade often fear that it will bring lower environmental and labor standards. Companies like yours are seeking the highest level of productivity relative to cost. Wage is only one part of this equation with substantially higher productivity making production for certain goods and items cheaper in developed countries.

Low wages alone are not propelling China onto the world stage. The workforce of the China of today is driven by a strong work ethic, working hard to escape the dire poverty of the past.

As it has happened in the development of every other developed nation, with wealth will come citizens who are able to afford and demand higher levels of environmental standards and improving labor standards.

Globally, developed countries are facing a rapid transition to a service based economy and a manufacturing sector that is focused on higher end, highly engineered / designed services, and rapid turnaround production. Change for many is difficult, with this structural change not unlike the industrial revolution. Ultimately more higher value jobs will be created in developed countries just as developed countries are no longer nations of farmers. If anything globalization and reduced trade restrictions is resulting in the fastest race to the top the world has ever seen.
